De Amerikaanse rockband Bon Jovi breekt in de jaen tachtig door met albums als Slippery When Wet (1986) en hitsingles als "You Give Love a Bad Name", "Wanted Dead or Alive" en "Living on a Prayer". Maar waar veel jaren tachtig-bands het decennium niet overleven, blijft Bon Jovi een vaste waarde in de popmuziek.
Dat doen ze onder meer door hun sound steeds weer subtiel aan te passen. Zo maken ze in de loop der jaren gebruik van invloeden uit pop, rock, metal, country en softrock. Zo zijn ze ook in de 21ste eeuw nog steeds een populaire band. In 2024 wordt bij het veertigjarig jubileum stilgestaan met de documentaire Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story en het zestiende studioalbum Forever.
